I am always interested to hear from prospective PhD students who want to use critical or novel approaches to security and/or intelligence to better explain how and why specific political actors – say, intelligence and security professionals, governments or the international community – respond to contemporary armed conflict, terrorism or atrocity.
I am currently supervising PhD projects on:
- New Zealand Counterterrorism
- Grey Zone Conflict
- Special Operations Forces and Private Military Contractors.
And I have supervised postgraduate research on:
- Foreign Policies of Iran and the United States Regarding the Syrian Civil War
- China as a global cyber security menace
- Twitter and the 2014 New Zealand General Election
- New Zealand and the Islamic State
- US Response to Armed Violence in Iraq
- Iran and its Quest for Security through Nuclear Deterrence.
